It’s emerged National Highways cancelled 59,007 penalty charge notices in the year after it switched to a different provider to manage payments for the crossing.
London’s Standard newspaper quotes Freedom of Information figures obtained by the PA news agency that show a huge rise after Conduent took over from emovis, compared to 3,595 during the previous 12 months.
It says the total value of the 59,007 PCNs at the point of issue was £4.1 million, as each was £70, reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days.
National Highways issued apologies after the changeover in the summer of 2023 when there were numerous issues regarding card revalidation and the website accepting payments, but the Standard says that the organisation now says the issues have been solved.
