Improvements and new features to the cycleway in Alice Park have been completed thanks to works organised by the Alice Park Trust, Bath & North East Somerset Council and VolkerHighways.
The mini cycleway in Alice Park, where children can practise their cycling and road safety skills, features a roundabout, zebra crossings and stop junctions which have been refreshed with new road markings. A new bench and road signs have also been installed.
The council and VolkerHighways held an educational session at the cycleway with children from the nearby Alice Park Nursery and councillors from the Alice Park Trust Sub-Committee.
Councillor Manda Rigby, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “The cycleway in Alice Park is a valued and well-used community resource and it’s great to see it improved. The cycleway will serve an educational resource to teach children about road safety and give them the opportunity to practise using and crossing a highway in a safer environment.”
Jacqui Wilson, owner of Alice Park Nursery, said: “The children were really excited to use mini cycleway with the new road signs. We have had lots of fun finding out what each sign means and it’s great for teaching the children about road safety.”
Bath and North East Somerset Council is the sole trustee of the park which is managed by the Alice Park Trust Sub-Committee under delegation of the Charitable Trust Board.
