New team in place for highways delivery in Staffordshire

Major investment in the county’s roads planned for the next three years will be backed by a new team at Staffordshire County Council.

One Cabinet member will take on the role overseeing the high-quality delivery of highways projects countywide, while two support members will liaise with communities and focus on local issues.

Mark Deaville, current Cabinet member for Commercial Matters will take on responsibility for Strategic Highways, while Rob Pritchard becomes Cabinet Support Member for Highways Operations South, and Keith Flunder Cabinet Support Member Highways Operations North.

County Council Leader Alan White thanked previous Cabinet Member for Highways David Williams for his hard work since taking on the role in 2020.

Alan White said: “David has done a great job overseeing highways over the last few years and I want to thank him on behalf of Staffordshire for all his hard work.

“We understand that people are passionate about the quality of our roads and we are determined to get the most we can from the millions of pounds that we spend every year.

“As well as the £53 million allocated for major projects, improvement and maintenance in 2024/25, we have announced an additional £50 million over the next three years to turbo-charge our highways investment.

“This will make a real difference to communities across Staffordshire and the way the new team is shaped will ensure that we have focus and energy to deliver what’s needed.”

Mark Deaville has previously held Cabinet responsibility for Highways, while Rob Pritchard is currently a Cabinet Support member for Highways. Keith Flunder is county councillor for Biddulph South and Endon division in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
