National Highways has warned of major delays as large scale bridge repairs take place on the A52 near Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Road users are advised to allow extra time for journeys as bridge repairs are set to begin on a busy commuter road early next month.

Starting on Monday, July 8, safety work to repair a damaged bridge on the A52 at the Queen’s Medical Centre roundabout in Nottingham will take place, says the Newark Advertiser.

The northern bridge on Derby Road at the junction with the A52 and the A6154 Middleton Boulevard was struck by a lorry carrying an excavator on the eastbound carriageway in 2018, damaging the edge beam. Now, National Highways will be replacing the beam and re-waterproofing the bridge in a scheme due to last until summer 2025.

The first three weeks will involve the diversion of a gas main running through the bridge by Cadent, five nights a week, followed by the diversion of electric cables by Western Power Distribution.

On Monday, 29 July, National Highways will take over to carry out overnight work, from 8pm to 6am, on Mondays to Fridays, which will see a number of lane closures on the roundabout.

Lane one will be closed 24/7 for the safety of the public, while other lanes will close when works are taking place at night.

The A52 on the approach to the roundabout from the Priory Island will also have lane closures in place, and to protect the travelling public the A6514 Middleton Boulevard underneath the bridge will be closed at night with traffic diverted up and over the roundabout using the exit and entry slip roads.
