Octavius has secured the design and build scheme to replace the life expired bridge structure carrying the Winterstoke Road over the London to Exeter mainline railway for North Somerset Council.
The project was procured through the Pagabo Civils and Infrastructure Framework.
The company will be replacing a bridge that was originally built by the Ministry of Defence in 1943. The route over the bridge provides access to industrial and residential areas to and from the Weston-Super-Mare town centre. The existing structure also incorporates several statutory authority services that all need to be carefully protected so as supplies are maintained fully during the works.
The design development phase has already begun, the replacement will be meticulously planned, and we will adopt methodologies that ensure we minimise disruption to businesses and the local community.
Octavius Delivery Director for Highways Chris Hudson, said: “I anticipate that our activities will commence at the site from July 2025, with the new bridge due to be completed in June 2026. Enabling the heavy load restrictions currently imposed at this location to be removed and the highway returned to full capacity.”
