It seems like the idea to build a tunnel between Scotland and Northern Ireland will be shelved because there’s no money to pay for it.
The Irish Times says Boris Johnson’s idea to construct the £15 million tunnel will hot happen because there isn’t the money to pay for it.
The report says the idea has been described as “dead” by government officials briefed on spending negotiations ahead of Rishi Sunak’s Budget next month, explaining the chancellor warned Cabinet colleagues he wants to “put the public finances on a sustainable path in the medium term”.
It adds that the spending review will “deliver a hammer blow” to Mr Johnson’s plan to build a 21-mile bridge or tunnel from Scotland to Northern Ireland. One government official said: “It’s dead – at least for now”.
