smartmicro radar installed at the edge of the Arctic Circle

A smartmicro TRUGRD radar has been installed at a bridge crossing of the River Torne in Lapland at the Finnish/Swedish border.

The installation, by Fintraffic who are the special assignment group operating under the ownership steering of the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, is on the important border crossing between the towns of Tornio, Finland and Haparanda in Sweden.

The TRUGRD was supplied by our Finnish distributor Nodeon and installed and commissioned by Normivalaistus OY for the client. smartmicro believes that this radar is the most northern installation of a smartmicro radar in Europe and is operating in the snow and harsh -30° C temperatures.

The company says the radar is ideally suited for bridge deck traffic detection where conventional loops can not be installed, and that the sensor is ideal for intersection and highway management. With a field of view of 110° the sensor can monitor up to 12 lanes and 256 objects simultaneously, this particular radar also has the optional weather hood fitted to protect the face of the radar from accumulation of snow.
