Featuring a presence from the Department for Transport as well as senior thought leaders from key players across the highways sector, all but one of the speakers for this year’s Stamp it Out summit at the House of Lords have now been announced.
Taking place on the 13th June 2023 the event will be chaired by Phil Clifton, Managing Director of Balfour Beatty Highways, who is also the project sponsor for the programme and feature a stellar line up of speakers, as for the first time, the client and contractor come together to fine effective solutions to end the abuse of our workforce on the public highways.
Headed by Matthew Eglinton of the Department for Transport and also featuring Steve Helliwell, Managing Director of Balfour Beatty Living Places and Paul Crick, Director of Highways and Transportation at Essex County Council, the event promises to be groundbreaking in terms of unveiling a unique and fresh approach to tackling the subject of abuse across not only our own sector but also providing a roadmap others can follow.
With 1 in 2 roadworkers admitting that they face abuse whilst going about their daily works, Kevin Robinson, CEO of Safer Highways, the industry body at the forefront of the initiative emphasised why now, more than ever, there is a real need to tackle the issue, starting with the high level summit, he said,
“Roadworker abuse has long been a blight on our sector, having a massive impact on the perception of those looking to enter our industry.
“As a collective we must take positive steps to address the issue, but that can only come with stakeholder and contractor engagement and as such I am delighted to see both represented at this event.
“Until we present a united approach and a clear pathway to making abuse socially unacceptable this will always be a challenge.
