Tarmac achieves major award for commitment to inclusion and diversity

Tarmac has been awarded the Clear Assured Silver Standard in recognition of its ongoing dedication to inclusion and diversity.

The Clear Assured Standard, from assessment body The Clear Company, is a globally-recognised accreditation. It is awarded to businesses which can demonstrate a commitment to inclusion and diversity (I&D) measures which are reflected across both company policies and culture.

Marking a step up from the Bronze Standard that Tarmac achieved last year, the improved silver accreditation was secured thanks to significant ongoing efforts to improve I&D practices and ensuring these have been embedded day-to-day across the business.

The accreditation is achieved by completing set tasks, all of which are designed to challenge and enhance inclusion culture. Among the key initiatives highlighted by The Clear Company as part of the award were the launch of a REACH (religion, ethnic and cultural heritage) employee community, completion of neurodiversity awareness training and work to create internships with the Social Mobility Foundation.

Louise Houston, head of inclusion and diversity for Tarmac, said: “Embedding I&D into our business has been key to achieving the Silver Standard from Clear Assured and this has been a significant team effort right across Tarmac.

“We would not have been able to make the progress we have without outstanding leadership and a commitment to implementing initiatives which enhance our support for employees at all stages of their careers. We know that we still have a way to go but we’re very proud of the foundations we’ve set in place.”

Head of Clear Assured, Anna Mäkinen, added: “By achieving Silver Standard at Clear Assured, Tarmac has expanded workplace diversity and embedded I&D throughout the employee experience through measures such as ensuring benefit packages are inclusive and accessible, and incorporating flexible work arrangements where possible to improve inclusion, growth and trust.

“With this in mind Tarmac is aiming to set new goals and move towards making greater impact both internally and externally, and we are delighted to continue assisting them in achieving their vision and mission.”
