Andy Marchant, a Traffic Expert at TomTom, has said that the postponement of the launch of robotaxis in London has highlighted the complexities of the project.
“Delays to the robotaxi rollout in London have shone a spotlight on the city’s challenging testing environment,” he says. “Regulatory frameworks, liability models and operating standards are still catching up. In a city which has many narrow roads, changing speed limits and evolving street layouts, the real test will be delivering safe, consistent performance at scale if they are to earn widespread public confidence.

This intelligence works alongside a vehicle’s cameras, radar and other sensors, providing vital context beyond their immediate line of sight. He concluded:
“This same location intelligence will be critical in helping the UK Government and transport authorities plan safe, scalable robotaxi deployments, giving them the visibility and oversight needed to govern these services effectively and build public trust.”
