Warning issued as “unavoidable” works lasting several weeks to start in Staffordshire

Drivers in Staffordshire are being warned of ‘unavoidable delays’ as major improvements are carried out on a road above the A500. But highways officials say the works on Stoke Road over the D-road will help to improve traffic flow. Motorists are now braced for delays on the two approaches to the bridge – from Shelton and Stoke – while the scheme gets underway. Signs have gone up in the area warning the project will last for 12 weeks.

According to the Stoke on Trent Live, engineers hope it will improve traffic flow and safety in the area. But they have warned of ‘unavoidable delays’ with temporary traffic management set to be used. When the lights were overhauled at the D-road’s junction with City Road in Fenton that triggered extremely long delays spiralling back towards the Victoria Road junction.

This time and the already busy Stoke Road and Shelton Old Road could be about to get even more congested. A spokesperson for the highways team said: “We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period and ask all road users to follow signage and instructions provided for your safety and to minimise disruption.”
