Waze and Heineken team up in anti-drink-drive initiative

Drivers in America who use the Waze navigation app are to get reminders not to drink and drive thanks to a new partnership with brewer Heineken.

The idea is that when people set navigation to a route where drinking may take place, say beaches, parks, sports stadiums or restaurants, they’ll receive messages reminding them there is always a choice and encouraging safe decision-making behind the wheel.

Furthermore, Waze users traveling to these sites will be offered a rideshare voucher that they can redeem at any point during the summer for a “safe, responsible ride home”.

This partnership builds upon the brewer’s “When You Drive, Never Drink” global responsible consumption campaign. The two companies have already tried a similar initiative in South Africa, and with more than two million registered Waze users in the UK, this may be an idea imported here at some point soon.
