Windsor & Maidenhead Council has started the search for new highway maintenance contractors.
The contract dates for the successful bidder are estimated to be from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2033, with a possible extension to 31 March 2040.
The seven-year maintenance contract covers 392m of roads as well as footways and bridges throughout the London borough. As well as rods, the area consists of: footways 497m, bridge structures 300+ (of which 167 span greater than 15m), drains 26,000, Public rights of way 186m+ and highway trees 40,000 +.
Windsor & Maidenhead says the term of the contract may be extended for two further periods, one of five years and one of two, at the sole option of the authority. Any extension of the contract will be on the terms and conditions agreed in the Initial Term of Service provision unless such terms have been amended with the agreement of both parties.
The road network is split as follows: Motorways and trunk roads: 18m, A roads: 52m, B roads 42m, C roads: 63m, D roads (unclassified): 215m.
The enquiry deadline is 1pm on 30 May 2025, and the tender submission deadline is 1pm on 24 June 2025. The council said the estimated decision date for award of the contract is 13 October 2025.
