The next phase of cycle path construction continues in Bilborough as work moves onto Hollington Road. Nottingham City Council has received funding from the Government to improve access to employment and aid sustainable travel as part of the Transforming Cities Fund. Following a positive public consultation work started in summer 2024 to create a new, segregated path in Bilborough to improve access for walking, wheeling and cycling.

Work has been underway since July on Beechdale Road and the next phase is about to begin along Hollington Road on Monday 27 November 2023. The first stage will be to remove the central reservation before work to widen the pavement and allow space for the new segregated cycle way. This will create a safer and more enjoyable environment for walkers, cyclists and pedestrians. Work on Hollington Road is expected to take about seven months.

While construction takes place traffic flow will be maintained in both directions at all times. Access to residents’ properties will be also be maintained at all times. During certain periods bus stops may be temporarily relocated and some parking may be suspended.

Councillor Angela Kandola, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Transport said, “Better infrastructure helps to support more people to choose active travel methods, such as walking, wheeling and cycling. With the works along Beechdale Road now complete, it’s exciting to see how this project is progressing.

“The next phase will see works move onto Hollington Road as construction continues to create the new cycle and walking path.

“We are working hard to minimise traffic disruption while work is underway, and traffic flow will be maintained in both directions during the works.”
