After five years, the project to modernize over 200 traffic signal systems in Zurich has been successfully completed.

Yunex Traffic equipped the systems with Yutraffic sX controllers and 40V LED technology, providing increased reliability and ensuring the smooth operation of traffic lights across the city. With this upgrade, Zurich has set a critical foundation for innovative traffic management solutions.

“By modernising the traffic signal systems, we’ve taken an important step towards an innovative and intelligent traffic system. The new controllers not only offer greater reliability and efficiency but also provide the technological foundation for future-oriented solutions such as network-adaptive traffic control or connected mobility,” said Felix Denzler, Project Lead, Department of Traffic, City of Zurich. “This positions us well to meet the challenges of a rapidly growing city with dynamic, energy-efficient, and more resilient traffic management.”

The project also involved the renewal of the entire external infrastructure of the traffic signal systems in addition to the installation of the new controllers.
