£1 bus fare offer extended in North East Lincolnshire

North East Lincolnshire Council and its delivery partner, Equans, have announced an extension to the capped £1 bus fare across the borough.

Available to both adults and children, this wonderful offer enables you to travel anywhere in North East Lincolnshire for just £1, all day on weekends and after 6pm Monday to Friday.

The scheme will now be in place until end of June 2024, and subject to funding, may be extended further.

This initiative is funded by Department for Transport under the Bus Service Improvement Plan funding (BSIP Phase 2 funding), which is additional to the £4.7m already allocated to North East Lincolnshire Council.

Lani Lamming, Enhanced Quality Partnership Co-ordinator at Equans, said: “The extension of the capped £1 bus fare is great news for North East Lincolnshire. We hope cheaper bus travel will encourage people throughout the borough to get out and about locally.”

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Transport, commented: “Cutting the bus fare prices in half on weekends and weeknights has proven a huge success. This time of year can be a dull period for many but we hope that the £1 bus fares can help lift a few spirits and get the community out and about enjoying the local area.”

Roads Minister Guy Opperman said: “Local people deserve a modern, reliable, and affordable public transport system and I’m delighted to have worked alongside the local council and local MPs Lia Nici and Martin Vickers to give North East Lincolnshire over £5 million to boost its bus services.

“Part of our £2 billion to improve bus services in England, this is a fantastic result for passengers across North East Lincolnshire, who can continue save money and to get around for £1.”

Matt Cranwell, Managing Director at Stagecoach East Midlands said, “We are pleased to extend the £1 fare initiative in partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council, which is helping to grow the leisure economy in Grimsby and Cleethorpes by encouraging more people to travel into town in the evenings and at weekends.”
