£2.3m Burton resurfacing scheme to start in May

Work to fully resurface Derby Road, in Burton, will begin next month. The £2.3m scheme, expected to take around three months, will see crews resurface the route between Derby Turn island and the Pirelli roundabout in two phases.

The first phase, beginning on Monday 11 May, will see crews carrying out civil works under a one-way system.

Then, from Monday 6 July, crews will work overnight to resurface the road between the hours of 7pm to 6am from Monday to Friday. This work also includes carrying out repairs to ironworks, jetting the highways gullies and painting on new road markings.

The resurfacing will be completed in five stages to maintain access for residents and businesses in the area. Diversion routes will be in place via Hawkins Lane and the A38. While access to frontages will be maintained throughout the scheme where possible, there will be no on-street parking for everyone’s safety.

This scheme is the final phase of a wider highways programme to improve a key route into Burton, running from the A38 Clay Mills interchange through to Derby Road.

Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said:

“Derby Road is part of one of the busiest entry points into Burton and, as a result, is very surface-worn and in need of repair.

“So I really hope that residents will be pleased to hear that we are completely resurfacing this route next month. As with all roadworks, there will be some disruption but resurfacing will be carried out overnight to minimise this as much as possible.”
