Road safety barrier upgrades are planned for the A90 Kingsway in Dundee at the Kings Cross and Coupar Angus Interchanges with the project set to get underway on Sunday 3 July.
The project will involve teams removing the existing road safety barriers on the A90 central reserve and replacing them with an upgraded system, ensuring this section of the network remains at the highest of safety standards.
The maintenance works are schedule to begin on Sunday 3 July and are programmed to take place across four weeks. Works are planned to take place between 9pm and 6am each night. No works are planned to take place on Saturday nights.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a series of restrictions will be in place as follows:
The northbound carriageway will be closed at Kings Cross Interchange between 9pm and 6am. Traffic will be diverted via the slip roads at the interchange. A single lane closure will also be required on the southbound carriageway during working hours.
- A90 Kingsway Coupar Angus Interchange, northbound – Sunday 3 July to Saturday 16 July (9pm to 6am)
The northbound carriageway will be closed at the Coupar Angus Interchange between 9pm and 6am. Traffic will be diverted via the slip roads at the interchange. A single lane closure will also be required on the southbound carriageway during working hours.
- A90 Kingsway Kings Cross Interchange, southbound – Sunday 17 July to Saturday 30 July (9pm to 6am)
The southbound carriageway will be closed at Kings Cross Interchange between 9pm and 6am. Traffic will be diverted via the slip roads at the interchange. A single lane closure will also be required on the northbound carriageway during working hours.
- A90 Kingsway Coupar Angus Interchange, southbound – Sunday 17 July to Saturday 30 July (9pm to 6am)
The southbound carriageway will be closed at the Coupar Angus Interchange between 9pm and 6am. Traffic will be diverted via the slip roads at the interchange. A single lane closure will also be required on the northbound carriageway during working hours.
Consultation has been carried out with Transport Scotland, Dundee City Council, and the emergency services, to inform them of the project in advance.
Commenting on the upcoming project, BEAR Scotland North East Representative Ian Stewart said: “This maintenance on the network will help ensure the bridges over the A90 Kingsway at these two locations remain protected, ensuring the network continues to function safely for road users.
“The planned traffic management is essential to keep everyone safe during this project, however our teams will do all they can to complete the work as quickly and safely as they can to minimise disruption.
“We encourage all road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website before they travel and allowing some extra time to reach their destination.”
