Seven nights of road closures on the A82

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to carry out essential resurfacing works on the A82 near Inchree for seven nights in March.

The surfacing improvements will make the road more durable and resilient against inclement weather, providing a safer and smoother road for users. These works are necessary to address deteriorating conditions and improve road markings, although media reports suggest they will lead to drivers facing a four-hour, 200-mile detour.

The works are provisionally programmed for construction on Sunday 9 March until the morning of Tuesday 18 March, with no works carried out on Friday or Saturday.

To minimise disruption, works will take place overnight between the hours of 8pm and 6am. Outwith these hours, traffic management will be removed. However, a 30mph speed limit will be in place, as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Due to restricted road widths through this section of the A82, BEAR Scotland will close the carriageway to ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public. The A82 will therefore be closed in both directions each night.

During periods of closure, amnesties at 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12pm, 2am and 4am will allow waiting vehicles to be escorted through the site. Emergency service vehicles will be allowed to pass through the site throughout the working period.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans in advance.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “These essential resurfacing works will significantly improve the existing road surface, increasing both the quality and safety for road users. Additionally, the upgraded road markings will further improve road safety. We appreciate motorists’ patience as we undertake these important road improvements.”
