Transport for Buckinghamshire launches new road safety campaign

Transport for Buckinghamshire has launched a new road safety campaign aimed at informing drivers tto ‘share the road’ safely.

Throughout April, Transport for Buckinghamshire’s road safety initiative, Travel Safe Bucks, will be focusing on the ‘Share the Road’ campaign.

This supports the Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary ongoing ‘Two Wheels’ campaign, looking at biker, cyclist and e-scooter safety.

Travel Safe Bucks will be sharing safety messages via their social media channels to encourage drivers and cyclists to share the road safely and to watch out for one another.

With more daylight hours and restrictions easing in the area, more people are getting on their bikes, but unfortunately not everyone is taking appropriate safety measures, said the council.

Service Director for Highways and Technical Services, Rob Smith, said: “Buckinghamshire is a lovely county for cycling and its popularity seems to keep on growing, especially over lockdown when getting outside for exercise was so crucial to us all. It’s important for us all to be aware that cyclists are vulnerable on the road, and some may be new to cycling.

“We would ask all drivers to be patient and to take extra care around cyclists at junctions and roundabouts. If you’re a cyclist, please make sure you wear something bright so that you can be seen easily, make sure your lights are working – and use them!”
