Bury announces £168m highways framework

Bury Council are seeking contractors and civil engineers for its latest four-year highways framework, comprising 11 lots valued between £60,000 and £60m.

According to Place North West, Bury Council has launched a procurement exercise for the framework, which is valued at £168m inclusive of VAT. The framework will be active from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2030.

The council will look to appoint three companies to each of the lots, whose work range from standard preventative maintenance to bridge replacement.

Successful bidders will be eligible for direct project awards. Enquiries are due by 21 February, with tender submissions due a week later.

Interested parties can search notice identifier 2026/S 000-008664 on the government’s Find a Tender website.

Companies will be notified on 2 April if they were successful in securing a framework place.

The various lots, including their total value and typical project award, can be seen in the list below. All values are inclusive of VAT.

  • Minor and reactive maintenance: project values between £10,000 and £250,000; overall value of £6m
  • Preventative maintenance: project values between £50,000 and £1m; overall value of £12m
  • Carriageway surfacing: project values between £100,000 and £2.5m; overall value of £30m
  • Lining/anti-ski/coloured surfacing: project values between £5,000 and £50,000; overall value of £2.4m
  • Street lighting: project values between £1,200 and £260,000; overall value of £24m
  • Major civils: project values between £250,000 and £10m; overall value of £60m
  • CCTV and jetting inspection: project values between £2,000 and £25,000; overall value of £1.1m
  • Highway structures less than £150,000: overall value of £2.4m
  • Highway structures £150,000-£750,000: overall value of £9m
  • Highway structures over £750,000: overall value of £18m
  • Coring: project values between £1,000 and £5,000; overall value of £60,000
