Heidi Alexander has been retained as Transport Secretary in Andy Burnham’s cabinet.

As other politicians have either left government or been given new portfolios, the transport brief remains with the MP who has run the Department since November 2024.

Ms Alexander has previously been Deputy Mayor of London.

Her first response to the reappointment is a quote in her local news site, Swindon Link. She told it:

“I’m delighted to have been reappointed as Secretary of State for Transport and I am grateful to the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, for the confidence he has placed in me.

“I’m looking forward to continuing the work of delivering a transport system that improves people’s day-to-day lives, supports economic growth and gives passengers the reliable services they deserve.

“The drive to renationalise our railways continues with GWR coming into public ownership in December – improving our buses and fixing our broken roads are also top priorities for me.”

The Ministerial team in the DfT will be announced in due course.
