Transport Secretary revokes A47 dualling DCO

The Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander MP, is proposing to make an order to revoke the A47 Wansford to Sutton Development Consent Order in Cambridgeshire.

Galliford Try was originally awarded the £100m project (now thought to be worth £130m) to dual the road near Peterborough over six years ago, with the project due for completion in 2024. However, Ms Alexander has now withdrawn consent after her department found “exceptional circumstances” linked to the project.

During a parliamentary debate last summer she said it was “not feasible to support further investment at this time”. National Highways’s original proposition was to build the 1.4km stretch of dual carriageway along the existing A47 between Wansford and Sutton, with dedicated slip roads and the reconfiguration of several roundabouts.
