Suffolk: Drivers face 53-mile A14 diversion

Drivers in Suffolk are facing major diversions as a section of the A14 has closed for the next week. National Highways is carrying out essential maintenance on the westbound carriageway of the major route near Stowmarket, with the westbound side of the road scheduled to be closed nightly between junctions 51 and 46 from 8pm to 6am to minimise disruption, says the East Anglian Daily Times.

An official diversion route, covering around 53 miles, will be in place throughout the closure.

It comes as another stretch of the A14 is closed this week.

National Highways is also carrying out work between junction 58 and junction 59, from today, 3 March until tomorow. The stretch of road will be closed between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

Electrical works will be taking place along the stretch of the major road on behalf of National Highways.

During the closure, Felixstowe Road, which runs parallel to the A14, will be one way, to allow for the traffic from the eastbound carriageway to avoid the closure.
