The remote CCTV monitoring company Chellan Highway Safety Services has launched a new fully-integrated CCTV monitoring solution for roadworks and traffic management sites which connects operatives, clients and recovery teams in real time.
The company says its new LENSE platform is the only temporary traffic management CCTV monitoring service backed by fully accredited operator training, adding that the combination of specialist training and integrated technology “creates a new standard for monitoring safety on high-speed, high-risk road schemes”.
The platform enables CCTV operatives to log incidents, incursions and recovery events, upload evidential footage, report faults and generate structured reports, while maintaining a real-time operational record.
For clients, including Tier 1 contractors and traffic management providers, Chellan adds that LENSE offers a single interface to view incidents and recoveries as they happen. Analytical dashboards and downloadable reports to support compliance and performance monitoring are also available.
Recovery companies can also access live incident data prior to dispatch, with digital job tracking and performance reporting aimed at improving response times and operational efficiency.
All Chellan operatives are trained through the Lantra TTM CCTV Operator (Major Schemes) course, a programme specifically designed for use on major highways projects. The training provides awareness of highway infrastructure, traffic management layouts and equipment, as well as operational roles across schemes.
It also covers areas including stop vehicle detection, works incursions and free recovery operations, alongside knowledge of camera systems, multi-agency communication and data protection requirements.
Chellan says this ensures its operators go beyond passive monitoring, enabling them to interpret live situations, assess risk and take appropriate action in real time, adding that the integration of accredited training with a dedicated monitoring platform sets its service apart in the sector.
“At Chellan, we don’t believe CCTV monitoring should be passive – watching a screen isn’t enough,” commented Managing Director Wayne Nelthorpe. “Understanding what’s happening, why it matters, and how to respond, that’s what protects lives, assets, and network performance. That’s why we’ve built a monitoring model that goes far beyond the industry standard.
“This is about creating a system where operators understand the risks they are monitoring, while giving clients and partners full visibility of what is happening on the network.”
The company says the launch reflects growing demand for more intelligent, data-driven approaches to managing roadworks and temporary traffic management, particularly on strategic road networks where safety and rapid incident response are critical.
Chellan adds that by combining trained operatives with real-time intelligence, the service is designed to improve safety, accountability and performance across all parties involved in highway schemes.
