A construction error has meant that a new cycle path needed to be dug up and re-laid before it opened to the public. A spokesperson for South Gloucestershire Council confirmed the error and said the newly laid path ‘had not met the authority’s expected standards’, says Bristol Live.
“We are removing a small section of the cycleway’s lower construction layer as it doesn’t meet our high standards,” the spokesperson said. This lower layer will be replaced before we put down the green surface layer.”
The spokesperson did not elaborate on what was wrong with the offending section of the cycleway.
The bike lane is part of a project to improve cycling, walking and bus routes in Bradley Stoke which has infuriated many residents and commuters since it started in February 2025.
Drivers have complained of long delays, particularly at peak times, while people living in the area have been disturbed by construction noise.
At the time of writing, part of Bradley Stoke Way is closed overnight so that work related to the project can take place.
One local even took South Gloucestershire Council to court over the disruption caused by its handling of the project and the closure of several roads at the same time. The resident has since abandoned the action.
