Wiltshire issues Longfield Gyratory improvement scheme update

Wiltshire Council has issued an update on the ongoing Longfield Gyratory improvement works in Trowbridge.

Most resurfacing and road widening works have now been completed, the council says, along with longer lasting road markings, widened lanes and traffic signal upgrades.

Together, the new markings and wider lanes will help to increase capacity at the junction and improve lane discipline and traffic flow, while the upgraded signals will operate more efficiently and responsively.

The northbound section of County Way towards the Longfield Gyratory will remain closed until 8 May to enable SSEN time to move a high-voltage cable. Vehicles are unable to travel northbound from Bradley Road or Dursley Road during this time.

The SSEN work began this morning (17 April) to enable them to meet the statutory timeframes of giving people notice of planned power outages.

Once this work is completed, the remaining lighting installation, signal work and final surfacing on County Way can be carried out.

To prepare for the next phase of works and to allow two way traffic to be maintained afterwards, there will also be night time closures on Bythesea Road from 5 to 8 May.

Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, said:

We apologise for the continued disruption while these essential works are completed, but we must ensure the safety of our teams and the community by ensuring this high-voltage cable is moved safely.

We’ve been working closely with SSEN on this and we’re grateful for their support to move the cable so that the rest of the project can be completed.

These works will deliver long term benefits for Trowbridge by improving traffic flow at the Longfield Gyratory and providing upgraded traffic signals and better facilities for pedestrians and cyclists, including those travelling to the new leisure centre.”
