Wiltshire secures £206m for transport upgrades

Wiltshire Council has announced that it has secured more than £206m in government funding through the Department for Transport’s Integrated Transport Fund and Bus Services Fund, covering the period from 2026-27 to 2029-30.

The funding will support a range of road schemes, including maintenance, resurfacing, and preventive repairs, as well as improvements to public transport, walking and cycling routes, and greener infrastructure across the county, says the Salisbury Journal.

Martin Smith, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for highways, said:

“This is a significant and very welcome investment for Wiltshire. Securing more than £206m of Government funding gives us the stability and confidence we need to plan ahead and deliver real improvements for residents.

“The funding will be spent on the things that really matter to people, including improving the condition of our roads, supporting bus services that people rely on, and investing in safer, greener ways to travel.

“It also allows us to take a long-term approach, making sure transport across Wiltshire continues to support our communities, our economy and our environment.”

In addition to road and bus improvements, the funding will go towards projects that promote active travel and reduce carbon emissions, including plans for better walking, wheeling, and cycling networks, new and improved electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and other sustainability measures.

The council also aims to improve connectivity and access to essential services through targeted transport upgrades.

To guide the investment, Wiltshire Council will publish a Local Transport Delivery Plan later this year.
