M27 resurfacing works come to an end

More than two years of roadworks on the M27 in Hampshire are being lifted after a major resurfacing project.

The concrete layer of the motorway between junctions 5 and 7 have been overlaid with 180mm of low noise surface asphalt.

Changes were also made to the existing barrier systems, drainage, structures and other assets.

National Highways said it used “innovative techniques and new technology to provide a modern road that will last for decades to come, and which is easier and quicker for us to repair in future”. These techniques led to faster project delivery, using less carbon and creating less waste.

The road now has reduced tyre noise, improved ride quality and an extended life.

The first stage of technology testing will begin tomorrow (21 April), and lane closures will be removed from both carriageways by 6am. A temporary 50mph speed limit will remain in place while the final stage of testing and recommissioning is carried out, but all lanes will be open.
