Guildford Borough Council (GBC) are warning residents that heavier traffic than normal should be anticipated in the town during June and into July while work continues to turn a busy roundabout into a four-way signalled crossroads.

The closure will begin today and should last a month according to the council. with knock-on effects expected in the surrounding area, as Woodlands Road will be closed between the roundabout and the abattoir gates, reports Get Surrey.

The month-long closure will be to allow GBC’s contractors Winvic to widen the roundabout’s access for Woodlands Road, upgrade footpaths, and install a new bus shelter.

At the same time on the Moorfield Road junction for Slyfield Industrial Estate, multiple new lanes are currently being built. These two sets road improvements are expected to take a year to complete.

All of these road improvements are to ready the area for the additional traffic brought on by the 1,650 homes currently being built in Bellfields and Slyfield, which is has been called the Weyside Urban Village project.

Next year, the council will turn its focus to road improvements closer to the town centre with plans to build an additional northbound lane on the A3 on and off slip road just off the Stoke Crossroads.
