Winvic Construction has been appointed to deliver the next phase of highways works to Weyside Urban Village by Guildford Borough Council in Surrey. Weyside Urban Village is a large scale regeneration scheme on a brownfield site which will provide 1,650 new homes, health and community facilities, employment space, and green spaces.

Winvic will deliver upgrades to the existing road network around Slyfield Industrial Estate, one of the key routes to the new village, with works including road reconstruction, resurfacing, drainage improvements, service cable diversions and complex traffic management. Construction is now underway, with completion scheduled for Winter 2026.

This appointment marks Winvic’s third contract award with Guildford Borough Council. In 2023, Winvic was awarded a £14m contract to deliver 35,000m³ of earthworks remediation to support the site’s wider redevelopment of the site and included 35,000m³ of earthworks remediation.

This was then followed by a second award to deliver a package of offsite highways works. Three schemes have been completed to date, and two more schemes are currently in progress. The programme includes the installation of new pedestrian and cycle crossings, the creation of bus lanes, road widening works, and the replacement of an existing roundabout with a signalised junction. The works are scheduled for completion in early 2027.

Throughout the project, Winvic will continue to deliver the social value commitments set out within Guildford Borough Council’s policy, and create a positive local legacy through employment, training, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education and volunteering initiatives.

Rob Cook, Managing Director for Civils & Infrastructure at Winvic Construction, said:

“We are pleased to have been appointed to deliver this latest phase of infrastructure works at Weyside Urban Village. Building on our experience across the wider regeneration programme, we look forward to delivering these important highways improvements which will support the development of the new community. We remain focussed on delivering long term social value through local employment, skills development and engagement opportunities.”
