Just four years after its launch, Associated Asphalt’s Retail Division has established itself as a significant force in the UK retail surfacing sector, growing from an initial two-person team into a £15 million business.
Led by retail infrastructure expert Lee Robinson (pictured), the division was established in 2022 with a team of two and a clear vision – to bring Associated Asphalt’s proven expertise in delivering first-class infrastructure solutions within complex live environments to the retail market.
Alongside other project wins, a key driver of its rapid success has been the successful acquisition of two major national retail framework contracts.
In February 2022, the division secured a £30 million car park surfacing framework with one of the UK’s largest supermarket operators, taking responsibility for delivering works across four UK regions.
Building on the success of the partnership, the division has continued to attract new retail clients. Most recently, it secured a £4 million programme of works for another national supermarket, covering six capital investment sites across the South of England.
Crucially, for both national accounts, the team delivered specialist warm mix asphalt solutions that helped achieve meaningful carbon savings across each surfacing programme, supporting the clients’ broader net-zero and sustainability ambitions.
Going forward, the division remains focused on expanding its national footprint and driving further growth, with a number of major projects already in the pipeline.

Lee Robinson, Retail Director at Associated Asphalt, said: “It’s incredible to see how far the division has come since launching just four years ago. From day one, our objective was clear – we wanted to apply the same commitment to absolute excellence we have become so well known for in highways and aviation to the retail market.
“Infrastructure works in busy live retail environments, of course, presents some very unique challenges in terms of minimising disruption to customers and trading operations. But thanks to our specialist expertise and meticulous approach, we have been able to establish a reputation for excellence early on – enabling us to secure major national contracts.
“While we are extremely proud of what has been achieved so far, this is only the beginning and our focus remains on delivering the next chapter of growth.”
Nick Denning, Managing Director of Associated Asphalt added:
“The success of our Retail Division over the past four years is a testament to the quality of our people and our unwavering commitment to working in partnership with our client’s to develop innovative solutions that deliver lasting value.
“I would like to thank Lee and the rest of the team for their hard work and dedication. The Retail Division remains a strategic part of our long-term expansion plans and I look forward to supporting the team to build on their momentum in the years ahead.”
