Associated Asphalt have been recognised for the second year running as one of the UK’s top medium-sized companies to work for in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2026.
Published today by The Sunday Times in partnership with WorkL, this nationwide survey celebrates over 500 of the UK’s top employers across all sectors and sizes. The survey honours organisations that excel in creating outstanding workplaces for women, the LGBTQIA+ community, disabled employees, ethnic minorities, younger and older workers, and those offering exceptional wellbeing support.
Founded in 2014, Associated Asphalt, which has headquarters in Heathrow and over 130 staff nationwide, continues to see rapid growth having established a reputation for operational excellence, reliability and assured performance in complex environments. Key working sectors in which they operate include airfield surfacing, highway surfacing, rail and retail carpark maintenance.
The business secured its place on the list following an independent survey assessing employee engagement, wellbeing and discretionary effort.
Among the key findings, the results highlighted Associated Asphalt’s progressive leadership culture and strong commitment to employee wellbeing, with the business achieving a 90% happiness score. In addition, 94% of employees said they are proud to work for the company, while 94% said the business genuinely cares about their wellbeing.
Against the backdrop of a growing skills gap and increasing competition for talent across the construction sector, the survey also highlighted an exceptionally low employee flight risk score of just 2%, compared with an industry average of 41%.
It constitutes the second year in a row that the business has received the highly coveted Sunday Times Best Places to Work accolade.
Nick Denning, Managing Director at Associated Asphalt said:
“We are thrilled to once again be recognised as one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work. With a turnover of £135m and a team now of over 130 people, we’ve worked hard to build a supportive and collaborative culture where people from all backgrounds and stages feel valued, listened to, and empowered to grow and do truly groundbreaking things.
“That’s why it’s fantastic to see that recognised. Our people are at the heart of our business, and this award is a credit to them all.”
Lord Mark Price, founder of WorkL, said:
“I am delighted that more companies than ever entered this year’s Best Places to Work awards and more have been given winner’s medals. The scores are higher than last year showing a greater focus being put on how employees feel. All our research at WorkL clearly shows that happier workforces drive better commercial performance.”
