Associated Asphalt has renewed its commitment to charity, as employees from across the business came together in the Lake District Ultra extreme challenge to raise funds for Veterans in Action (VIA) and Macmillan.
On 6June, a total of 18 Associated Asphalt employees embarked on the gruelling challenge, taking on distances of either 100km or 50km through the Lake District’s stunning countryside, forests, sweeping hills and Lake Windermere. With the region’s notoriously difficult terrain, significant ascents and unpredictable weather, the event is known as one of the toughest of its kind in the UK.
Prior to the challenge, teams undertook a number of practice runs including an 11 mile nighttime walk in the Peak District. The total amount raised will be split between Macmillan Cancer Support and Veterans in Action, a charity that helps veterans who suffer from the effects of war or who find it hard to adjust to civilian life.
The company’s fundraising activities are led by Maureen Tallis, Head of People, as part of Associated Asphalt’s wider Social Values programme. The initiative encompasses a range of social and economic activities designed to support local communities, promote inclusion and create a positive and lasting legacy wherever the business operates.

“Every year, our people organise and take part in a variety of fundraising activities across the business, and we are continually inspired by the enthusiasm and commitment they show. This year’s Lake District Ultra Challenge was particularly remarkable. Taking on such demanding distances required months of preparation, determination and teamwork, and everyone involved should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.
“Not only have they completed an extraordinary personal challenge, but they have also raised a significant amount of money for two important charities that provide invaluable support to people when they need it most. On behalf of Associated Asphalt, I would like to thank everyone who took part, donated and supported the team throughout their journey.”
