SG officially unveiled its new identity at Highways UK 2026, bringing the expertise and capabilities formerly operating as Solar Gates, MVIS and P&D Specialist Services together under one name. The launch was accompanied by three additions to SG’s offering: VMS-P, ECO-GEN HVO and an end-to end EV charging service – alongside live demonstrations of integrated technologies.

Held at the NEC Birmingham on 14-15 October, the event gave visitors their first opportunity to explore the SG offering in one place, with specialists on hand across traffic management, incursion control, monitoring, visual messaging and power infrastructure. The shared stand demonstrated how these capabilities can be coordinated to support projects requiring multiple disciplines.

For customers managing multi-disciplinary schemes, the combined offering provides access to traffic signals, incursion control, variable message signs, CCTV, monitoring and off-grid power through a single business. Rather than coordinating several suppliers, customers can work with one team to plan complementary equipment, reduce handovers and simplify the management of projects from specification through to delivery and ongoing support.

Customers will continue to work with the people they know, accessing the same trusted products, expertise and standards of service. Through SG, those established relationships are now supported by a wider range of specialist capabilities, with teams working more closely together when projects require multiple disciplines.

Neil Sampson, CEO, commented:

“All of those skill sets already existed in three different places. What we’ve done is bring them together, so our customers can draw on all of that expertise through a single team.”

For the first time, Highways UK visitors could explore SG’s full range in one space, with live demonstrations and specialists across different disciplines available to discuss individual products and wider project requirements.

Tom Hooton, one of SG’s Research & Development Managers, explained how variable messaging signs can incorporate additional capabilities, including speed radar activation, barrier-triggered messaging and CCTV. Combining these functions within one system can reduce the need for separate equipment and simplify site operations.

“We’ve got a wider array of knowledge and experience that we can throw at any product,” he said.

Among the new launches was ECO-GEN HVO, an adaption of SG’s existing off-grid power technology that combines solar generation and battery storage with an HVO-powered backup generator.

Designed to maintain power through periods of reduced sunlight, including winter months, the system supports applications such as temporary CCTV, site compounds and speed enforcement equipment.

The use of HVO can also offer up to 90% carbon reduction compared with traditional fuels, depending on the fuel source, helping customers address carbon reduction requirements on infrastructure projects.

Simon Waterall, Technology Director at SG, explained:

“We combine battery backup and solar with an HVO-powered generator to provide support through the winter months. With additional equipment and the right configuration, we can power assets for up to 24 months.”

SG also launched VMS-P, a palletised, solar-powered variable message sign designed for deployment without a dedicated trailer. Multiple signs can be transported together and positioned using a forklift or HIAB, offering greater flexibility for site deliveries and reducing the need for individual trailer movements.

The third launch was SG’s end-to-end EV charging service, giving customers a single point of contact from initial consultation and design through to installation and long-term maintenance. Each solution is planned around vehicle usage, available power and operational requirements.
