Investigation work will start this week on the A519 Newcastle Road between Cotes Heath and Mill Meece in Staffordshire. The County Council is carrying out the work to help plan future repairs and improvements on this busy road.
The work began yesterday (Thursday 6 August) and is expected to take around two months. Crews will take samples from the road, dig small trial holes and carry out laboratory testing. They will also check drainage and utilities along a stretch of nearly 2km.
The results will help highways engineers understand what work is needed and choose the best long-term repair options. The main maintenance work is planned for the 2027/28 financial year.
Temporary traffic lights and speed restrictions will be used during the work to keep road users and crews safe. Access to nearby homes, businesses and surrounding roads will stay open, but people are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said:
“We know how important the A519 Newcastle Road is for local residents, businesses and people travelling through the area. This investigation work will give our engineers the information they need about the road, drainage and utilities, so we can plan the right long-term improvements.
“We know delays can be frustrating, and we thank people for their patience while this important preparation takes place.”
