Amey Consulting and universities to deliver new apprenticeship programmes

Amey Consulting, in partnership with several universities, has launched four fully funded degree apprenticeship programmes to help bring new talent into the industry across civil engineering, data science and environmental & sustainability.

These programmes will sit alongside Amey Consulting’s award-winning Rail degree apprentice programme which will launch for a second successive year.

The programmes will allow school and college leavers to gain a bespoke degree in their chosen field and provide the opportunity to work on major highway and railway infrastructure schemes.

The apprentices will start in May and September 2021 and will be supported and mentored throughout their studies while also having the opportunity to thrive in a diverse and dynamic business.

Alex Gilbert, Managing Director of Amey Consulting said: “I’m immensely proud to see the launch of four-degree apprenticeship programmes across Amey Consulting. Given the nature and size of our business, it is critical to invest in early careers to create a stream of highly qualified engineering talent. The fully funded courses provide an alternative route into the industry and supports our commitment to equal opportunities; resulting in a more diverse and sustainable business for the future.”

Amey Consulting has partnered with Coventry University for both Civil Engineering and Environmental & Sustainability programmes, York St John (London Campus) for Data Science and we will continue working closely with Sheffield Hallam University for the second year running of the Rail degree apprentice programme.

John Ironman, Associate Head of School, Coventry University, said: “We are proud and excited to be working so closely with the Amey team to develop and support the next generation of young engineers as they progress through their career journey. Our aim is to help equip students with the knowledge and skills they’ll need to play key roles in solving the myriad of engineering challenges that we face in the future.”

On completion of the Degree Apprenticeship Programme, apprentices will not only have obtained a Bachelor’s degree, but also practical, business focussed vocational skills obtained through real world experience, gained in our design offices and on site, helping Amey Consulting cement its reputation as one of the UK’s leading providers of professional engineering services. Through Amey’s commitment to professional excellence, all apprentices will have the opportunity to become Chartered, ensuring a continuation of their learning and development.

This scheme is an integral part of Amey’s commitment to drive innovation in employment practices, striving for greater inclusion within the workplace and its commitment to the 5% club pledge of hiring more apprentices.
