WSP has announced the extension of its relationship with Devon County Council to continue the provision of transportation and engineering professional services.
The firm was originally appointed in 2020 for an initial five-year contract due to end in March 2025. Since 2020, WSP’s Exeter-based team has delivered over 500 projects for the Council, including highway schemes, bridge and structures, transport planning, master planning, walking and cycling schemes, public transport and other public realm enhancements. The team have also supported Devon on bids which have attracted over £50 million in funding.
An important part of the contract to date has been a continued commitment to delivering Social Value, not through each project but through its annual recruitment programme for local apprentices and graduates, delivering long-term benefits to communities.
By continuing the relationship, the contract provides a wide range of transportation and engineering professional services to support the County’s in-house design teams and includes, highways and structures design, transport planning, environmental and planning support and flood risk management.

Councillor Andrea Davis Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, said: “There is much to celebrate in what this partnership has achieved since 2020, whether it be technical and policy support or delivering schemes that support decarbonisation and healthier lifestyles. Particular highlights include the development of the Local Transport Plan and the delivery of +£50m schemes package through the Housing Infrastructure Fund and Bus Service Improvement Plan Government programmes. These have contributed to accelerated housing delivery at South West Exeter and continued recovery of bus use in Devon.”
