Actor Hugh Grant was among dozens of motorists who were stuck in heavy traffic on the A3 in South West London for up to five hours over the Bank Holiday weekend.
While the M25 was suffering from typical bank holiday weekend congestion, the A3 was particularly problematic on Friday afternoon with the British actor taking to X to beg TfL for some clarity on the chaos, says the Evening Standard.
National Highways had warned of delays of up to 120 minutes on the A3 northbound between the A244 junction at Esher and the A309 junction at Chessington.
One frustrated motorist tweeted sarcastically: “Thank you for ruining Friday for thousands of people today. Spent over 4 hours stuck in traffic on the A3, only to find no workers at all! Unbelievable.”
TfL responded to Grant’s “rant” by saying that safety was their priority and that emergency repairs were required to a section of wall in the Tolworth area, leading to the lane closures.
