Scottish transport chiefs are to bring forward gully cleaning and “investigate the possibility” of further improvements to drains at a notorious flash-flooding spot on the A9. BEAR Scotland made the promise to accelerate its gully cleaning programme after furious motorists hit out at dangerous flooding on the southbound carriageway in Inverness on Sunday morning, says the Inverness Courier.
A short section between the Longman Roundabout and the Raigmore Interchange was completely flooded, with the outside lane only passable with care, and roads contractors on site slowing traffic and directing motorists away from the deeper water on the inside lane.
However, while roads teams were on site swiftly to keep drivers safe, the site’s continuing reputation for flash flooding left motorist scratching their heads.
And several demanded to know why no lasting action to fix the drainage system has taken place.
One motorist who drove through the flooded road that morning said: “It’s worrying how often that bit of road floods.
“They had folk out safely directing people onto the outside lane, where the flooding was less severe, but I dread to think what might happen if flooding ever takes place and there’s no-one on hand to direct traffic.
