Aimsun wins another award for its NEVFMA air quality solution

Hot on the heels of its win at the ITS (UK) Awards last month, the transport modelling firm Aimsun has received another accolade, winning the TechWorks Green Technology Award for its NEVFMA project.

NEVFMA, which stands for the Network Emissions and Vehicle Flow Management Adjustment project, uses transport modelling to mitigate against congestion build-up and therefore and improve air quality, was recently trialled in Oxfordshire, proving that it is possible to use existing ITS solutions to reduce emissions in areas suffering from significant effects of pollution.

Data shows that targeted interventions deliver an average decrease in emissions of 5%, with decreases of up to 40% on some days.  On 57% of the days evaluated, when emissions would have exceeded the annual legal NO2 average, the NEVFMA system recommended a traffic management strategy which brought emissions back below legal limits two thirds of the time.

NEVFMA was delivered by Aimsun, supported by EarthSense, Yunex Traffic and Oxfordshire County Council for National Highways. The TechWorks Green Technology Award was sponsored by yieldHUB.
