Alun Griffiths wins Banwell Bypass contract

North Somerset Council has awarded Welsh-based contractor, Alun Griffiths, the design and build contract for the Banwell Bypass near Weston Super Mare.

Plans are for the bypass to help with congestion problems on existing local roads in and around the village of Banwell in the county as well as boost the local community and businesses when it is finished in 2024.

The work is being funded by the government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund as part of the wider plan for housing at Weston villages as well as a school.

The project will see the bypass run from the Summer Lane junction on the A371 to the A368 Towerhead Road. It will also include flood mitigation works and improvements to Junction 21 of the M5. Going forward, the bypass will support the development of housing sites to help meet the demand for new homes over the next 15 years.
