ARTSM issues position statement on standard

The Association of Road Traffic Safety and Management have issued a statement regarding BS 8442:2022.

Following concerns received by our members in respect of BS 8442:2022 at the start of May, ARTSM requested for an urgent meeting of B509/3 at BSI to address the identified errors. The BSI B509/3 committee agreed that the errors should be corrected and the corrections appear below.

Amendment requires a business case to BSI and this has now been drafted. However, we are unable to identify a time scale for this to take place. ARTSM is however pushing for this to be expedited as soon as practicably possible.

BS 8442:2022 amendments required:

Clause 13 : Retroreflective self righting bollards

13.3.2 Photometric performance of conspicuity panels, traffic signs and plain white circles incorporated in all RSRB

States: Retroreflective material shall conform to BS EN 12899-1:2007
Should state: Retroreflective material shall conform to BS EN 12899-1:2007, Table NA.1B

Appendix A : Retroreflective sheeting materials

A.2.2 Preparation samples : line 4:
States: BS EN 485-1 or other agreed substrate (see 4c) Should state: BS EN 485-1 or other agreed substrate (see 4f)

Clause A.3.2 Coefficient of retroreflection sign face materials
States: When measured in accordance with the procedure specified …..retroreflective materials shall

conform to BS EN 12899-1:2007, Table 4, class RA2 or above
Should state: When measured in accordance with the procedure specified …..retroreflective

materials shall conform to BS EN 12899-1:2007.
