Big question over whether LA Congress can happen

It’s lined up to be the biggest event in the ITS calendar, but there’s a doubt over weather this year’s World Congress in LA can go ahead after the mayor of Los Angeles suggested big gatherings could be banned all year.

The LA Times says Eric Garcetti sent an email saying large gatherings like concerts and sporting events may not be approved for at least a year [while Coronavirus is brought under control]. An event drawing more than 10,000 to a convention centre must therefore be under threat.

“It’s difficult to imagine us getting together in the thousands any time soon. I think we should be prepared for that this year. I think we all have never wanted science to work so quickly. But until there’s either a vaccine, some sort pharmaceutical intervention or herd immunity, the science is the science,” Garcetti told CNN.

Major events such as Intertraffic and Traffex Seeing is Believing have already been postponed or cancelled. A decision is awaited over next month’s European Congress in Lisbon.
