Britannia Bridge: A55 drivers facing seven weeks of disruption while sign is replaced

Westbound A55 traffic is facing more disruption in Gwynedd over the coming weeks when an ageing matrix sign is replaced. Overnight lane and carriageway closures will be needed and, over the August Bank Holiday weekend, 40mph speed restrictions will be in place, says North Wales Live.

Traffic Wales said a variable message sign on the approach to the Britannia Bridge has reached the end of its design life and needs replacing. In a statement, the road manager said: “The works are required to improve the availability of this safety-critical asset, which is used to divert traffic when the Britannia Bridge is closed.”

Work began this week and will continue in stages until September 11 (see details below). The road section affected is between Junction 10 for Caernarfon Road and Junction 9 for Treborth, Bangor.
