County Council appoints new Service Director for Transport and Connectivity

Jamie Cooke has been appointed as Cambridgeshire County Council’s new Service Director: Transport and Connectivity.

He will be joining Cambridgeshire from the London Borough of Newham, where he is currently Acting Corporate Director, Environment and Sustainable Transport and was previously the Council’s Director of Highways, Transportation and Parking.

He brings with him a wealth of experience in transport strategy, highways and infrastructure development, having worked in local government for 17 years, 12 of which were in Highways.

Jamie Cooke has also previously worked in Environment Services at two London boroughs and two County Councils, where he was instrumental in the design, commissioning, and delivery of services.

Much of his local government career has been focussed on transport strategy development – he has led on long term transport strategies at Barnet and Newham, and later delivered some of London’s major transport infrastructure, including the Royal Dock Corridor in East London.

In his new role at Cambridgeshire County Council, Mr Cooke will oversee critical improvements in transport strategy, digital connectivity, traffic management, parking management, and the operation of the park and ride busway services. Another key focus will be working closely with partners, particularly the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, to develop and implement strategic programmes, including the county’s digital connectivity strategy, Vision Zero strategy, and active travel initiatives.

Speaking about the new role, he said: “As a Cambridgeshire resident, I am delighted to be joining the County Council at such an exciting time.

“I’m really impressed with the Council’s vision to create a greener, fairer and more caring Cambridgeshire. Transport and connectivity are universal services that everyone uses, and I am very much looking forward to working with elected members, colleagues and partners to deliver these services for Cambridgeshire.”

Commenting on the appointment, Frank Jordan, Executive Director for Place and Sustainability at Cambridgeshire County Council, said: “Jamie’s expertise in transport strategy and commitment to delivering sustainable, accessible solutions for Cambridgeshire make him an excellent addition to our team. I look forward to working with him to ensure our transport network continues to evolve to meet the needs of residents and businesses across the county.”
