Crane fire closes major A road

The A64 in Tadcaster has been closed after a hundred-ton crane caught fire on the carriageway.

The road was closed all day (12 August) after the crane caught fire on the eastbound carriageway. The road was shut for several hours in both directions, but the westbound carriageway was opened later in the day.

Highways England says a complex operation was underway to recover the charred vehicle and release trapped traffic.

It was fully reopened in the early hours of 13 August.
