Dumfries and Galloway Council is forecasting capital spending in line with its £70.7 million budget for 2026/27, with roads, transport and infrastructure projects among the schemes progressing across the region.
A Quarter 2 report, covering July to September 2026, will be presented to the council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee on Tuesday 3 November.
Transport highlights include nine new zero-emission buses entering service, alongside a proposed £460,000 transfer from the Active Travel budget to fund core paths work. Councillors will also consider other adjustments to individual transport and infrastructure projects.
The quarter also saw construction begin on the Whitesands Flood Protection Scheme, while work continued on wider regeneration and environmental projects.
Cllr Andy Ferguson, chair of the council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee, said:
“Our capital programme represents significant investment in communities right across Dumfries and Galloway, and it is encouraging to see major projects continuing to move forward. From new and improved schools to flood protection, public transport and investment in our wider infrastructure, these projects have a very real impact on people’s everyday lives.
“The proposed £460,000 for core paths is another important part of that investment, recognising the value of our local path network to communities across Dumfries and Galloway. The committee will carefully consider the latest position and the adjustments proposed as we continue to make sure investment is directed effectively.”
