Local communities and road users are being encouraged to view and comment on the developing route options for bypassing the villages of Springholm and Crocketford on the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway.

There are six route options, passing to both the north and south of the villages, that remain under consideration. These include dual carriageway options and single carriageway options with dedicated overtaking opportunities through an additional lane.

The public can also see the options which have been ruled out and learn the reasons why, view the types of junctions and accesses that are being considered, and get an understanding of the next steps for the design and assessment work that is being progressed with the UK Government’s commitment to fund this initial scheme development work.

Public engagement events are being held today (23 June) to let people learn about the work and provide feedback on the plans.  All the information from the events is available to view on Transport Scotland’s website.

Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Tourism and Transport, Stephen Flynn said:

“We are committed to improving safety, resilience and reliability for everyone who uses the A75, from local communities to freight operators. The design work, looking at options to bypass the villages of Springholm and Crocketford, is well underway.

“We have identified a number of route options, including dual carriageways and single carriageways with dedicated overtaking opportunities, and these will now be subject to further development and assessment.

“Springholm and Crocketford are the only two settlements on this busy route which are yet to be bypassed and we are pleased to be taking this work forward to improve the lives of people living, visiting and working in the villages.

“The public engagement events today and tomorrow provide an opportunity for local communities and road users to view and comment on the options. I would encourage anyone with an interest in this project to come along to one of the events or view the material online and share their feedback.

“This vital work will lead to the identification of a preferred route option for bypassing Springholm and Crocketford, expected in early 2027.”
