The major local transport authorities say they need clarity on facemasks, social distancing, travel demand and funding in order to properly cope during the Coronavirus crisis.
The Local Transport Group, made up of authorities in London, West Midlands, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Tyne and Wear, Greater Manchester and Merseyside, has issued a report saying they’re facing challenges related to lockdown release timings, how to deliver additional demand while sticking to social distancing, and how they pay for it all.
They’re calling for the Government to work closely with them on PPE, ongoing promotion of home working, allowing flexible management of the network to deliver agile and integrated solutions and enough money to cover the funding challenges in the recovery phase.
They say these have to be addressed prior to the restart period, otherwise they won’t be able to guarantee the provision that may be required to support the Government’s plans.
